Deer are grazing animals and therefore they will eat bits and pieces of plants throughout a farmerā€™s garden. This can lead to the devastation of the whole garden if the farmer is not careful and has not protected the plants from the deer. To protect plants from deer, a farmer should put up physical fencing, or electric fencing, get a dog or use a hideous that makes the crops unappetizing to interested and hungry deer. Deer love feed on various vegetables and plants.

You can dump the pumpkin and apple off in your food plot or a property that you Hunt because the Deer will Eat them in the winter and if they are big they will last a while. They probably will not eat them if they are very rotten. Unbeknownst to many pumpkins are a likable food source for deer.

They distractedly break open and eat out any pumpkins found in November and December. Pumpkins are known to be great aids to the digestive system and make a great nutritional supplement to plants for deer and other wildlife.

How Deer Eat Pumpkins?

I really had a big problem last year with deer eating my pumpkins just as they commence to ripen, both white and orange. Deer would eat a hole right through the pumpkins, eat all the seed’s guts out and leave the outer flesh.

I sprayed the pumpkins with the putrid rotten egg-smelling substance last year, which is sold at garden centers but it didnā€™t seem to work very well and this year I have set up scentful deer repellents around and in the garden.

But I have already seen them in there a few times in the evening and overnight on my wildlife camera. They have yet to eat anything but I know as they start to mature, I will be finding destroyed pumpkins left and right like last year.

Unfortunately, deer fencing isnā€™t an option for me but I am willing to try any recommendations for homemade or store-bought repellents.

Pumpkin consumes a lot of water. If you go through a dry period, youā€™ll need to hand-water the plants. They take a long time to ripe, so you need to plant early or start plants indoors in April. Throughout the summer youā€™ll see new marks and hoof marks on the pumpkins but they canā€™t snuggle them.

When they matured, the deer could only break open the small ones. If youā€™re not having acres of pumpkins, you might forget the sprays, lotions, and potions. You need to get a roll of chicken wire and make loose tents over the fruit covering all sides. Deer are basically a little lazy when it comes to free food and wonā€™t nose through secured down the chicken wire. A small investment in wire and a bundle or two of construction stakes will be a good idea.

They tend to eat an apple and in the winter season as it is on the list of available food items during the freezing environment.  Sometimes deer may lose 20 to 30% of their body weight over the winter, but this is one of their ways to survive.

Apples have an extremely low-fat content, and the many vitamins, and minerals that apples hold, especially for the skin. What I feel, is deer feeding behavior is never the same, It changes seasonally

Deer do not usually eat the apples until late winter or early spring. Not much activity during the season. Deer will eat apples fallen from the trees or rotten apples that people may feed them.

You may be trying to grow a few banana plants outside and bur lapping their roots over the winter. You have picked out a spot that seems to get a decent amount of sun and probably wonā€™t be hit by the wind too much, but thereā€™s one problem, and that is deer problem.

If you want to give them something in addition to their basic hay diet, alfalfa pellets are the best option to give. Bananas are rich in potassium and fiber and are good for deer.

As per a study deer consumed over 140 plant species and about a third of those species accounted for 93 percent of the overall diet. Deer eat a list of food types, including browse, leafy parts of woody plants, forbs, herbaceous broad-leaved plants, agricultural crops, hard and soft mast, seeds, grass, and mushrooms or lichens.

Do Deer Eat Orange Peels?

The peel of oranges sometimes seems to work at keeping the deer from eating the plants. You can take the orange peels, not orange pieces or whole oranges, rip them into about 2 -3-inch pieces, and scatter them around in your garden beds and at the edges of the paths.  By using only the peels you can avoid animals coming into the yard to eat the orange and the peels decompose slowly so I donā€™t have to reapply my deer repellent very often.

The next time if you eat an orange, you can take the peels out to the garden to spread, and see what happens.  If you currently use some other methods, try this as a test case in a small area.  If it works, you have a better way to halt deer. How To Stop Deer Eating Your Strawberry Plants?

Fencing can stop deer damage to your strawberry plants. Some usual types of fencing can deter deer including woven wire, mesh barriers, and electric fences. Deers attempt to go under or through a fence before they jump over it, so the gap between the fence and the height should be appropriate. Physical barriers should be at least 8 feet tall and form a solid barrier around the perimeter of your garden to effectively emit deer.

Deer repellents are helpful to make your strawberry plants less attractive to deer. Repellants do not prevent deer from dispersing and damage the plants. They are rarely effective after deer have already begun feeding on your plants. You can use a mixture of 20% whole eggs and 80% water and spray directly onto your strawberry plants, once every 30 days, to discourage deer from feeding on them.

If you are growing a comparatively small number of strawberry plants, you can grow them in containers and move them indoors at night. It is a very simple and effective way to save your berries from hungry deer.

Electric fencing is only effective if deer do not learn to neglect it. Baiting the fence with peanut butter on aluminum foil stimulates deer to touch the fence and deters them from coming near it again.

Many varieties of Kieffer trees produce fruit within three to five years of being planted with little pruning. These trees grow 15 to 30 feet tall and spread around between 12 to 20 feet. Kieffer pears are more appropriate for canning or pickling, but that doesnā€™t deter deer from eating their fruit.

We have a doe on our property that has 3 fawns this year and she comes to us daily for our water melon rinds. I havenā€™t been able to get her to take it out of my hand but she will come as close as 2 feet away. She loves it and almost begs for it. We call her ā€œHoneyā€. Sheā€™s thin after the 3 babes, so we hope she stays a little more hydrated with the rind and maybe her milk is a little sweeter with a little watermelon rind this summer. Thank you for your information. We got a laugh when we read they ā€œdonā€™t eat it.ā€ All the deer ate our broken up pumpkins this November as well.

can I feed my wild deer friends, they love the mangos, so is papaya safe too? They certainly have a sweet tooth! I am concerned that the mother deer seems to stomp her hoof with excitement when she sees me, that is what it means correct? or is it just that she associates me with treats? I noticed she was miffed when I filled her water bowl before laying her feed bowl down and she rather whacked the water bowl flying just because I did not give her a treat first! She stomps her hoof when she particularly enjoys a fruit just like a human! She seemed to almost whinny like a horse? Are you familiar with this behavior??? Thank you!

Do Mule Deer enjoy eating chayote ? I doubt it since it is not sweet however it is so packed with fabulous nutrients for them, I am going to give her a little sample, if she does not it a chubby mouse likes to sneak away some of her fruit treats! I never received a reply about my question about if mule deer enjoy papayas, so I just intuited they would, and they did! I like to surprise her with different fruits, to cheer her up! Her twin brother was killed by coyotes this past December, and now her mother is expecting again, and has left after becoming aggressive with her! It was very disturbing to watch the mother Doe become aggressive with her daughter! She truly traumatized her own maturing fawn and ran her off to hide! I was so disturbed because I though since they were the only 2 Mule deer left in their mini herd the doe would be loving and just stay with her maturing female fawn! Is the doe acting aggressive because she is pregnant , or does she see her maturing female fawn as just another deer competing for food, that would be so wrong! sometimes mother nature is very inhumane!!! I just keep praying it is a hormonal thing since the die is clearly expecting again! Please reply someone, I love to learn as much as possible about my angelic mule deer friends! Thank you, very much!
